IDEAL Breast Lift™
Many women seek a breast lift, or mastopexy, because pregnancy, a significant weight change, or the natural process of aging has left them with stretched skin and less volume in their breasts. While a cosmetic breast lift can raise and reshape breasts that have sagged, it cannot make breasts bigger and fuller. For that, you also need breast implants. When breast implants are inserted in conjunction with a mastopexy, breasts will be lifted and increased in firmness and size. Occasionally, a breast lift is combined with a small breast reduction.
If you are satisfied with the size of your breasts when they are lifted by your bra, then a breast lift alone may be the right procedure for you. But if you want your breasts to be larger than they currently are when they are lifted by your bra, then you are probably a candidate for a combination breast lift and cosmetic breast augmentation.
In his experience with over 5,000 cosmetic breast surgeries, Dr. Ted Eisenberg reports that about half of his breast lift patients also get breast implants. That's because a breast lift alone will not add volume to your breasts. It will reshape them by moving the position of the nipple higher. Likewise, breast implants alone won't do the job of a lift. In fact, if implants are put behind droopy breasts, it could give the impression that you have four breasts - the two implants higher and your own breasts lower.
A breast augmentation with mastopexy is probably the most complex of the cosmetic breast surgeries, because two different operations are combined to achieve the desired result. It requires a lot of sculpting, finesse and experience to choose the desired size implant and then adjust the surrounding skin envelope to produce a pleasing result. With his extensive experience, Dr. Eisenberg has created the IDEAL Breast Lift™, a pioneering technique that simplifies this process. It maximizes the lift and minimizes the scar.
What To ExpectThe Breast Lift and Breast Augmentation pages provide detailed information about these two procedures. Here's what's unique about the combined breast lift and breast augmentation procedure.
The surgery, which is done under general anesthesia in Philadelphia's Nazareth Hospital operating room, takes about three and a half hours. You'll be home the same day.
After doing his measurements and markings, Dr. Ted Eisenberg will do the breast augmentation surgery; by inserting the breast implants first he can see how much of the breast skin envelope will be filled out. Then, he will perform the cosmetic breast lift surgery, removing any excess skin. The procedures are done in this order so that breast skin is not over-tightened by the lift procedure.
The recovery is similar to that of a breast augmentation. During the first three days, women who have had children report that the discomfort feels like when their breasts were fully engorged with milk after childbirth. Women who have not had children describe the feeling as some tightness, burning or pressure. Dr. Eisenberg prescribes medications that will make this recovery period manageable for you.
